Navarang, the institution of performing arts in the field of Indian classical music, in vocal as well as instrumental was founded by Late Sangeet Acharya Amaresh Chandra Chawdhury in 1970. The enlighted torch is now being borne by his eligible son Pt. Samaresh Chawdhury with his humble efforts.
Navarang is a sincere effort on the part of friends and music lovers to promote and rejuvenate the cause of classical music, thus carrying forward the previous generations emanating from Rishis and Vedas.
Navarang, the istitution of performing arts has been honestly attempting to promote young and brilliant talents in both vocal and instrumental arena. Since the last three and half decades Navarang has been organizing concerts at different parts of West Bengal and sometimes at adjoining states also.
In the early 1970s Late Hirabai Barodkar, Late Ustad Istiak Hussain, Late Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan, Late Smt.Tanima Thakur and others have lended their voices and enriched Navarang. In the subsequent years world renowned maestros like Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri, Pt. Kumar Bose, Pt. Sanjoy Mukherjee, Pt. Sujit Saha, Sri Subhankar Banerjee, Pt. Samaresh Chawdhury, Pt. Aloke Chattopadhay, Ustad Mansoor Ali Khan, Bidusi Purnima Chaudhury, Pt. Jayanta Bose, Pt. Debu Chaudhury, Pt. Debaprasad Chattopadhay, Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Prof. Joydeep Ghosh, Ustad Roshan Ali, Late Ustad Mehfooz Khan to name few have added flavours to the concerts alongwith the promising young scholars of Navarang and other youngstars in different field of Indian classical music.
Number of young scholars of Navarang has established themselves in their respective field. Some of them are national scholars and also perform in AIR and Doordarshan. The most senior scholar and student of Pt. Samaresh Chawdhury, Miss Rupa Mukherjee is National Scholarship rewardee from Human Resource Ministry, New Delhi in 1999. She is B high artist of AIR and Doordarshan and is also senior trainer of Navarang institution.
Mousumi Chakraborty (Talukdar) is very promising young scholar of Indian Classical music. She stood first in All India Radio Music competition in all over India in 1998 and was awarded with Navaras Record award in 1999 from Mumbai.
Sarmistha Ghosh (Ganguli), Pahi Baishya, Purba Patitunda, to name few have been awarded with National Scholarship from Human Resource Ministry, New Delhi.
Each year Navarang organize Gurupurnima and annual conference where young talents get an opportunity to nurture their skills along with the world renound artists. |
